House of Welcome & Peace: February

by Candace McCallister

One of my goals for 2016 has been to transform our home into a place of peace for our family and into a welcoming place for guests. If you want to get caught up, check out these past posts: My Goals for 2016 and House of Welcome & Peace: January.

In the January post, I explained how my wonderful designer mother helped me come up with a plan for making a garage apartment into a more beautiful and versatile space. This month, my husband and I focused on putting that plan into action. I posted a few “in process” pictures last month, but in February we were able to get a lot further.

Before & After Pictures

My mom still has some finishing touches and design magic to put into place; but, I’m so excited about how it’s turning out! Here are some before and after shots:

I cannot seem to locate the before pictures of the inside, so here are the after pictures, for now:

The curtain divides the room so that the Thai bodywork space is separate from the other spaces. The walls were purply-blue before.

This makes a perfect spot a Thai bodywork session! (My sweet little helper wanted to be in the pictures…)

The bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom spaces are on the other side of the curtain.

The bedroom, plus the kitchenette in the background.

The bedroom space…we still plan to add a head board and some wall decorations.

The kitchenette and back door. The door to the bathroom is on the right.

Another view of the kitchenette.

The whole room with the curtain opened up. This space will work great for guests!

Consider this the “before” picture of the bathroom. I’m planning to paint, get a new shower curtain, and replace the sink with one we took out of the upstairs bathroom in our house. More pictures to come another month!

Goals for March

My goal is to have 10 sessions in this new space in March! If you live in Little Rock and would like to schedule one, send me an e-mail today!

I have been working through the Marie Kondo book, as I’ve mentioned in previous posts; but, I’ve been stuck on the “papers” section for quite awhile. My plan this month is finish going through ALL of the papers in the house and to go through all of our kitchen items. I also plan to put the finishing touches on the garage apartment project. Finally, I hope to get a garden plot made and planted this month! That will be my biggest undertaking, by far. I have looked forward to being able to garden in my own backyard for years. I’m hoping this is the year!
